This page contains a time-line of significant events in the fictional universe used in the TV show Futurama.

The time-line is broken into five sections and major plot events are dated in bold.

  • The past, events that happened before Futurama's primary time setting.
  • The present, events during Futuram's primary time setting, the year 3000 onwards to circa 3012.
  • The future, any events occurring after Futurama's primary time setting, often as a result of time travel.
  • Alternative realities, any events predicted to occur in an alternative reality from the Futurama universe.
  • Alternative dimensions, any events occurring in an alternative dimensions from the Futurama universe.

The past

Date Event
1947 The Crew accidentally travel back in time to this year and unintentionally created the Roswell incident. During this period Philip Fry kills his thought-to-be grandfather Enos in a failed attempt to save him from the grandfather paradox. Having learned that Enos couldn't have been his grandfather, Fry is seduced by his grandmother and sleeps with her, thus becoming his own grandfather.[1]
1999, December 31 Philip Fry fell into a cryogenic freezer[2]
circa 21st Century Cyborgs enslaved humanity. [3]
2008 The 'Stop and drop' branded suicide booth was invented. [2]
2052 Earth launched a giant ball of garbage into space to clean up accumulated rubbish. [4]
2063 Lucy Liu was named People's Sexiest Woman of the Year for the second time. [5]
2865 The Sith invaded Earth. Over 98 million people were killed on the first day. The outcome of the war is unknown. [6]
Late 30th Century An unnamed species invades Earth and forces all of the most intelligent people to mate continuously. [7]
Unknown date Giant carrots ruled the Earth. [8]

The present

3000 The Omicronians invade and defeat Earth, demanding to see the season finale of a 1999 show called Single Female Lawyer. [8]
3001 The Omicronians invade Earth again to stop people eating their young being sold as the snack food Popplers. [9]
3002 The Space Rome civilization and planets Don Martin 3 and Tweenis 12 are destroyed by the Brain Spawn. [10]
The Brain Spawn invade Earth but are driven away by Fry with the help of the Nibblonians. [10]
The Harlem Globetrotters arrive on Earth from the Globetrotter Planet challenging Earth to a game of basketball. [11]
3003 The Decapodians from Decapod 10 invade Earth after declaring war. Zoidberg ends the war by destroying the Mobile Oppression Palace used by the Decapodians to enslave humanity. [12]
3007 The Nudist Alien Scammers take over Earth. [13]
3008 The Earth is dominated by a tentacle creature, Yivo. Who came an alternative dimension through a rip in time-space. The people of Earth join Yivo in his dimension but are brought back by the Damned Robot Army. Yivo returns to his dimension leaving the people of Earth. [14]

Alternative dimensions

In the time between when The Professor, Bender and Fry go into the future until the universe ends, twice, then return to their equivalent position in time. The following events occur. [16]

1,000,000 By this date human kind has been enslaved by giraffes.
5,000,000 By this date the human race has evolved into two separate species, one small and intelligent, the other (Dumb-locks) are large and stupid. The latter take over the Earth in 5 years.
10,000,000 The people of Earth are under attack by robots that were originally created to make their lives easier.
50,000,000 By this date the 'backwards time machine' has been invented and the Earth is populated by beautiful woman.
100,000,000 By this date the Earth is barren and devoid of life.
1050 Heat death of the universe
