History

[edit]

So Long Safety & Formation (2006–2010)

[edit]

Originally formed by high school friends in 2006 from the remnants of other local bands[5], So Long Safety released one EP titled "Bear In Mind, I'm a Lion[5]" which brought the band a lot of attention. The band was nominated in 2008 for two MusicOz Awards and were highly ranked in Tripple J's "Unearthed Competition"[6][2].

Hands Like Houses and EP (2010-2011)

[edit]

In 2010, the band changed their name to their current moniker "Hands Like Houses" and traveled to Chango Studios to record new material with producer Cameron Mizell[2]. The EP was set to be released later that year but the band was given the opportunity to return to Chango in 2011 and record what would become the rest of their full length[2]. In 2011, the band released singles for "This Ain't No Place For Animals" and "Lion Skin" on iTunes, garnering over 5,000 single sales[6].

"Signing and Ground Dweller (2012-Present)"

[edit]

On January 4, 2012, the band announced that they had signed to Rise Records[3]. On January 7th, the band released the artwork for "Ground Dweller" as well as announced the March 13th release date for the album[7]. Then, on March 11th, two days before the release of "Ground Dweller", the band streamed the entire album on the Alternative Press website[8]. "Ground Dweller" was released on March 13th, 2012. It debuted at #141 on the Billboard Top 200 and number 2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.[4] and has been generally well received.

Tours

[edit]

On May 2nd, 2012, "Hands Like Houses" will embark on their first ever tour of the U.S. on The Rise Records The Freshman Class of '12 Tour playing direct support to The Air I Breathe and My Ticket Home[9]
