I am a college student enrolled in a women and gender studies class. I find it very interesting how Disney can affect children in such a life-altering and often permanent way. Because of this, the feminist community has criticized Disney for its lack of diverse, strong, female characters that could serve as role models for young girls. This wiki section reveals the feminist reception of Disney Princesses. Because of these recent criticisms, Disney has been working on creating less stereotypical princesses, such as Moana [[1]] and Elsa [[2]]. Furthermore, Disney has recently been remaking many of their classic films, and although this is criticized as well, these films are often chances for Disney to go back and make their princesses less stereotypical and more diverse, independent, and intelligent. An example of this is Maleifcent [[3]]. Disney remade this classic story and made the female characters different. They still were the beloved characters, just with a feminist twist. Maleficent is portrayed as both and and good, as most humans are. She admits to not liking children or housework, which many classic Disney females love. This movie shows how the feminist criticisms of Disney's female characters have resulted in more developed characters. This source explains this recent change in Disney's Maleficent.[1]

These articles are all notable as Disney is a very popular and established company. Also, gender stereotypes and how they are evolving is a current topic in our society. The last article has the least information on it, and this is probably the one that I will add stuff to.
