about me :D

who i am and what i know
[edit]Call me Sticks (she/her*); I'm an undergrad student focusing on water chemistry and aquatic ecology with a bent towards algae and autotrophic bacteria (they're COOL!). Professionally, I have a solid knowledge base on ecosystem dynamics in mid-high elevation N. American boreal forests which shades into behavioral knowledge for some species (particularly mammals). I've done some paid and volunteer work in scientific interpretation/public outreach in both contexts.
I will always be the #1 lobbyist for respecting the value of hard-won idiographic understandings of ______. Ditto + jet fuel for traditional knowledges that indigenous peoples have built for literally orders of magnitude longer than any of my favorite case-studies (old men) can claim.
I *do* agree that —within this context— it's wise to err on the side of "formal" citations and author/editor distance from subject matter, but that these benchmarks aren't always constructive irl.
excuses for being annoying
[edit]Here's your disclaimer that I've been editing for <1 year (and VERY sporadically within that time), so I'm still working on getting the hang of the community culture and mores (as well as the practicalities of using the site). I'll do my best to handle myself, but am going to apologize in advance for whatever blunders I stumble into.
I'm all brain-weird and I have enough trouble keeping my Real Actual Life together, so I have to manage my priorities pretty closely. I'd rather leave loose ends here than at work or school, and I might not get around to tying them up very quickly. Not saying it's good or right, just saying that's how it goes.
Also, my computer works very hard but she does crash whenever I have too many tabs open (specifically something that happens a lot when I'm putting together Wiki drafts or doing my research) and that can mess with my whole opperation.

[edit]1* Other options for the adventurous include cualquiera él o ella en español, he/him en inglés (specifically as used in LeGuin's The Left Hand of Darkness or very old writing), Spivak pronouns if you want to come and play, he/him (specifically as used for your 7-11 cashier), whatever pronouns you've been having a hard time internalizing but want to practice to support someone you care about, they/them (aura of respectful and polite verbal distance)(distinct from aura of Tangible Fiddling with Gender Presentation; that would be stolen valor)
