From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tablet of Islam was first owned by the family of Mr. Robin Loh, owner of Lido Hotel in Beijing and Robina City in Queensland, Australia. It was cut from a 560 Carat natural Black Diamond found in Africa and polished in Antwerp.

The Arabic inscriptions "ALLAH A'KBAR" meaning "GOD IS GREAT" was inscribed in the United States using Laser Technology and thereafter, the stone was named "THE TABLET OF ISLAM" and recognized by the international jewellery community as the world's largest Natural Black Diamond.

It was sold to the present owner in 1993 prior to it being invited by the High Diamond Council to participate in the once in a lifetime "FROM THE TREASURY" exhibition in Antwerp, Belgium in commemoration of Antwerp being elected the cultural capital of EEC.

The "FROM THE TREASURY" exhibition was organized by the World's Top Gem companies and Banks and featured the rarest and most spectacular jewellery and gems owned by Countries and Churches and Diamond companies such as DeBeers, Sothebys and Kremlin Treasures amongst others.

It is interesting to note that the Tablet of Islam was featured in the front page and was the highest insured, thereby confirming its value and prime place amongst the top jewellery pieces in the world.

After the exhibition, the owners decided to keep the tablet from public view to retain its exclusivity and resisted invitations from museums and even the Smithsonian Institute to have the Tablet exhibited for public viewing.

Offers were received by the owners for the Tablet, including those representing Malaysia, Brunei and several large Muslim corporations. The "Top Offer" was made by the Commercial Bank of Saudi Arabia on behalf of its clients for US $16M, but all offers were rejected by the owners as they were only willing to sell if the price was US $20M.

As of now, the Tablet of Islam remains in the possession of its current owner and no additional information pertaining to its whereabouts is known about this Rare Black Diamond.
