Ruti Zisser (born July 1974) is an Israeli American fashion designer, wardrobe stylist, and a business woman,[1] publicly known by her first name, Ruti. Zisser is the founder of RUTI Inc., a fashion company dedicated to manufacturing and distributing her designs, and to showcase Israeli fashion designers internationally.[2]

Style of work[edit]

Ruti's designs and curations embrace the fashion-forward styles of Tel Aviv, with both statement pieces and down-to-earth, minimalist fashion.[3]

Biography[edit]

Ruti Zisser was born in Haifa, Israel on July 21, 1974. In 1977 Zisser moved with her family to Brussels, Belgium and in 1982 to Munich, Germany. In 1986 Ruti Zisser moved back to Israel and the family was settled in Tel Aviv. In 1999, Zisser immigrated to the US. [2] Zisser's career didn't start in fashion. Zisser worked in her late twenties and early thirties in the technology industry.[4] She self reflected that she was never satisfied and happy in the technology industry. "For many years I never had the courage to admit to myself, and to the people around me, that my heart was in a different place, far away from algorithms and artificial intelligence. The world of technology was not for me; I’ve always preferred the human touch." [5]

Company[edit]

RUTI Inc. is a privately held company founded by Zisser in 2009 in her garage in Palo Alto.[2] Zisser's company emphasizes fair trade and sustainable hand work, with over eight percent of RUTI inventory made by hand.

History[edit]

The first RUTI retail location opened on October 5, 2009 in Palo Alto.[2] [6]

The second boutique opened on Fillmore Street, San Francisco.[7] The space is designed by Nicole Hollis, a San Francisco based interior designer. [8]

The Santa Monica store was the third boutique to open, and is designed by Karina Tollman and Philipp Thomanek from Israel.[9]

The Berkeley store followed next. [10]

The store on Abbot Kinney, the vibrant street of Venice beach opened in 2013.

Bringing the success of the brick-and-mortar boutiques online, RUTI launched an eCommerce website in late 2014.
