John Steigerwald (born September, 1948), is a Pittsburgh based sports reporter, commentator, and former sports anchor. He worked on the sports anchor team at WTAE-TV (ABC), along with other Pittsburgh notables such as Myron Cope and Bill Hillgrove. He later moved to KDKA-TV (CBS) in 1985. KDKA chose not to renew his contract in 2007.[1] Currently, he is a "Sports Talk" host on the radio website of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.[2]
Bryan Stow incident[edit]
Steigerwald was the focus of much controversy[3] in 2011 after San Francisco Giants fan Bryan Stow was severely beaten on Opening Day. Steigerwald was accused of blaming Stow for the incident, noting that he had worn conspicuous Giants gear at a Dodgers game. At the time, he was writing for the Observer-Reporter. He later admitted the article had been "poorly written".[4]
