Early Life and Education[edit]

Kublai Mudjahid Ponce Millan was born on July 8,1974 in Cotabato City he finished schooling in University of the Philippines with a degree of fine Arts, and is also actively engaged in National Commission for Culture and Arts (NCAA) after he went back to the place where he grew up and dedicated his life in Mindanao as a human being and as a soul.

Career[edit]

His works can be seen in churches, provincial buildings, Davao International Airport. One of his famous sculpture is his larger than life sculpture The Durian, in Davao international Airport,30 sculptures for the Bukidnon Overview Park along the national highway connecting the city to Cagayan de Oro; and 100 bigger than life size sculptures in peoples park in Davao city. Millan’s works are epic, visionary and awe-aspiring, these are some of the common descriptions most often given to the visual artist Kublai Millan. His name is synonymous to 80-foot monuments-large “kubalis”- dispersed across Mindanao.Only in his 30s, Millan continues to create art pieces as if he never run out of inspirations, and he already established a name of his own in Davao Art. Millan is the enigmatic force turning the city of Davao into a bohemian revolution.

Influence[edit]

There is a big impact of fisherman and farmers from Mindanao to Millan. He is inspired of how simple they are living and in how much effort they are putting just to survive. Fisherman and farmers are his unintentional teachers they give Millan so much inspiration, an inspiration in which he can create his masterpiece to inspire other people.Millan has now channeled his talent into the blank canvas wit his life size sculptures and a 4ft x 4ft oil paintings which are beautiful in its abstract simplicity. He never fails to showcase his talent because his mentality is to help and inspire people from his works by giving hope to each one of us.

Accomplishments[edit]

The Kublai Gallery was allowed to be seen to public on Febuary 19, 2009, is located just two hpuse away from his art enclave in Ponce Suits in Dona Vicente Village in Bajada. One of the art works displayed in his gallery are his impressive works in geometrical pattern the really highlighted the Mindanao cultural tapestry. One art work also focuses on a varying palettes of pink and purple “sorbetes” (ice cream) vendor. Another art work focuses on a bagobo playing the “kutyapi” while the group of bagobo kids is happily involve in dancing their local dance.Manila gets to see Millan’s art works as they are exhibited in four galleries all over metro call ProbinSAYA. Combining the concept of peace and art, which he believes that peace and arts is in all of us. This exhibit of Kublai is an exciting road show of colors, passion and colours. ProbinSAYA show what is life in the province ,Millan has been and continues to be immersed in, capture and inspired with every stroke of his paintbrush. This exhibit is one the artist avenues for highlighting the beauty and life to the visual Arts in Mindanao.
