Online Master of Business Administration[edit]

Overview[edit]

The online MBA was developed to help professionals earn an MBA from a reputable business school while still attending work on a daily basis.[1]Online MBA programs are generally taught by the same faculty and use the same curriculum as on-campus courses.[2] Online MBA programs are typically powered through online partners such as 2U Inc., Pearson, and Academic Partnerships.[3]

Procedure[edit]

Online MBA programs tend to vary in length depending on the program, although they are generally less expensive than traditional schooling.[4] Some online MBA degrees can be earned in one year or less by full-time students, but many others take about two years to complete.[5] Complete online MBA degrees can cost anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000 depending on the program.[5] The coursework typically completed in an online MBA program includes:

  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Strategy
  • Marketing
  • Management
  • Information Systems
  • Operations[5]

In addition to general course offerings, online MBAs can also offer specializations that typically include:

  • International Business
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Sustainability
  • Computer Information Systems
  • Marketing
  • Entrepreneurship[5]

Governing Organizations[edit]

Online MBA Programs are approved by three major accrediting bodies – AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS. These governing organizations determine whether or not a school is teaching a particular subject to their students adequately.[4] These organizations develop their own accreditation standards for institutions.[6]

Accredited Online MBA Programs[edit]

Programs were ranked based on data related to their distance education MBA programs by U.S. News in January 2017.[7] Some of the top accredited online MBA programs include:

MBA@Syracuse is offered through program partner 2U Inc. Syracuse University’s online MBA teaches the foundation of business principles with specialized study in a concentration area.  Students can earn their degree in as little as two years.[9]

Students are required to be employed upon enrolling, and CMU’s online MBA program is accredited by the AACSB.[10]

All online classes are recorded and archived. Students have 2-5 years to complete the program.[10]

MBA@UNC offers the same MBA experience as it’s on campus counterpart through online partner, 2U inc. Students can typically complete the program in 18-36 months allowing flexibility for employed students.[10]

ASU’s online program highlights teamwork, beginning the program with an on-campus orientation. Students can complete coursework and take exams when convenient during each five-week course.[10]

The online program, called MBA@Rice, is designed for working professionals with extensive experience. Students and faculty will meet weekly in live, small-group online sessions, and students also will study prerecorded, interactive content. [11]

MBA@Denver mirrors Daniels' on campus Part-time Professional MBA (PMBA) program where students focus on core business challenges designed to help them develop the leadership skills needed for career acceleration. [12]

Ninety-eight percent of students are already employed when they enroll. All of the online classes are recorded and archived. Students should also note that the online MBA programs at American University (Kogod) are accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.[13]
