The Faculty of Electrical Engineering (Polish: Wydział Elektryczny, Polish pronunciation: [ˈvɨʥ̑aw ˌɛlɛkˈtrɨʧ̑nɨ]) is one of the five oldest faculties of the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin. It was established on 1 December 1947 by the decree of the Minister of Education, Czesław Wycech.

History[edit]

Founded in 1946, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the then Szczecin University of Engineering was placed in a building of the former United State Technical Schools for Marine Engineers and Seamen's Machinists at 37 Władysława Sikorskiego Street. The office of the dean was entrusted to Witold Gładysz, M. Eng. Originally, the faculty offered two degree programmes: electrical power engineering and telecommunications. On 1 September 1970, the Faculty was transformed into the Institute of Electrical Engineering by the decision of the Minister of Lower and Higher Education. However, on 23 January 1973, the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Technology issued a decision establishing the Institute of Automatic Control, which together with the Institute of Electrical Engineering constituted a new faculty. On 1 September 1982, the Institute of Electronics and Computer Science was also established. Further organisational changes were made in 1990, 2000 and 2010. On 1 January 2009, the Szczecin University of Technology was renamed the West Pomeranian University of Technology and the faculty changed its name to the present one.
