Getu Temesgen Bekele (Amharic: ጌጡ ተመስገን በቀለ ), who was known publicly as Getu Temesgen has been working for Ethiopian Television now Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation for 12 years, since 2004 to 2016. Because of his unforgettable journalistic works/TV productions, he has won various recognitions. He has been empowering the Ethiopian community all over the world with his Amharic blog and news page on Facebook and his website for the last 11 years, and his Facebook page has more than 878,000 followers by now. [edit]Getu Temesgen was born and raised in Addis Ababa. He has attended Elementary School in Atse Zereayacob Primary school and High school at Shimelis Habte Secondary School. He has studied Bachelor Degree in Journalism and Communication in Addis Ababa University School of Journalism, Addis Ababa Ethiopia and graduated in 2003.
Contributions, Honours and Awards
[edit]He was named “A Journalist with an eagle eye” in an audience poll conducted by French TV in 2008. His three TV productions were also presented for European audience in French language and as a result was invited by the producers to visit France, Germany, Italy and Belgium” in a poll conducted in September 1, 2009 to September 26, 2009.
In 2010, Getu Temesgen was the winner of the National Championship of “National Green Award” .He received a trophy and a certificate from the hands of the late His Excellency, Girma Wolde-Georgis (The President Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia for “the outstanding production ‘in TV Journalist Category’”. As an effect of his influential journalistic/TV reporting, ‘Greening Konso’, recommending a buffer zone establishment for the Konso community landscape terracing enabled it to become a UNESCO Proscribed Heritage site, and because of that, he was honored as “Green Hero” by UNESCO and the Ethiopian National Heritage Research and Protection Authority.
He is the winner of the 1 st and 2 nd TANA Social Media Award in the ‘Fast Reliable and Balanced Reporting category’. The Bahir Dar University also awarded his a scholarship for him. [3]
Getu works as a volunteer for the Ethiopian Blood Bank of the Ethiopian Red Cross Society and participates in its campaign “Safe Blood for all”.
