That Which Remains is a British melodic hardcore band from Swadlincote, Derbyshire. The band was originally formed by close friends Joseph Lucas (drums), Callum Stephenson (bass) and Oliver Hardingham (lead guitar) in 2015, who practiced and recorded in Lucas' backyard, using a garden shed as a studio.
History[edit]
Formation[edit]
The band was formed by friends Joe, Callum and Oliver in 2015. Robert Green joined soon after as rhythm guitarist for the band, but was replaced by [name] after having to leave due to commitment to Radio Masquerade, another rock band based in the area.
Original ideas for the name included Secundum Deus, meaning 'before God', Waves and For The Ones We Love, which later became the name of the title of their debut EP. Eventually the band settled on the name That Which Remains, a reference to the quote by Arthur Conan Doyle.
Early Recording and Debut EP[edit]
The band released their debut EP, For The Ones We Love in 2015. Oliver Hardingham wrote each of the songs on the EP, including both music and lyrics. Various changes were made to its tracklist and other aspects before finishing recording of the record in August 2015. The songs were arranged, practiced and recorded within a garden shed in Joe Lucas' backyard, used as a studio and 'badn area' at the time.
The EP was released officially on the 24th September as an unsigned record, made available on iTunes, YouTube and the Play Store, as well as Compact Disc (CD) by the band members themselves, to be sold at gigs and meet-ups.
