The Thomas-Mann-Schule (translated Thomas Mann School, abbreviated TMS) is a gymnasium in Lübeck which was named after the Nobel prize winner Thomas Mann. It is a so-called Europaschule and the school where the Model United Nations of Lübeck takes place every year.
History[edit]
Founded by Ida Hickeldeyn as the private Hinckeldeynsche Höhere Mädchenschule (translated Hinckeldeynic Higher Girl's School) in 1881, it was continued as Freesesche Höhere Mädchenschule (translated Freeseic Higher Girl's Schol) by Ina Freese in 1881, later also as a 'Lyzeum'. Die Thomas-Mann-Schule wurde im Jahr 1881 als private Hinckeldeynsche Höhere Mädchenschule von Ida Hinckeldeyn gegründet und ab 1896 von Ina Freese als Freesesche Höhere Mädchenschule, später auch als Lyzeum fortgeführt. Die Schule wird erst im Jahr 1920 staatlich, von 1927 bis 1936 als Oberlyzeum am Falkenplatz. Nach dem Kriege Oberschule am Falkenplatz und 1959 Bezug des heute noch genutzten Schulgebäudes am neuen Standort unweit der Wallbrechtstraße verbunden mit der Namensänderung in Thomas-Mann-Schule. Ab 1967 wird die Koedukation in der Thomas-Mann-Schule eingeführt.
