Pinal family

The Pinal family is a Mexican family prominent in the field of arts and entertainment that originally from Guaymas, Sonora and settled in Mexico City, have dedicated themselves to acting in movies and soap operas, music, theater and politics from the 20th century to the present.

Family background

Silvia Pinal Hidalgo, the founder of the Pinal family, was born to María Luisa Hidalgo Aguilar and Moisés Pasquel. Her real father did not acknowledge her, and she took her stepfather's surname, Pinal, when she was adopted by journalist, military, and politician Luis G. Pinal at the age of five.[1] Pinal's first formal relationship was with Rafael Banquells, whom she later married in 1947. In 1949, she began her career as an actress in a theater play and later made her debut in the Golden Age of Mexican cinema. She had her first daughter, Silvia Banquelis "Sylvia Pasquel", the same year she recorded her first film. Pinal and Banquelis divorced in 1952.[2]

Despite the personal challenges, Pinal continued to thrive in her career as a film actress. She married producer Gustavo Alatriste in 1961, and they had their second daughter, Viridiana Alatriste, in 1963. However, Pinal and Alatriste divorced in 1967, despite Pinal considering him the "love of her life".[3] In the same year, Pinal married the Venezuelan-born Mexican rock and roll singer Enrique Guzmán, who was 11 years younger than her. They had a daughter, Alejandra Guzmán in 1968, and a son, Luis Enrique Guzmán in 1970. Pinal and Guzmán collaborated on television shows in the 1960s and early 1970s but divorced in 1976.[4][5]

During the 1980s, Pinal continued to work on soap operas and produced and hosted the telenovela Mujer, casos de la vida real. Tragically, her daughter Viridiana died at the age of 19 in a car accident in 1982.[6] That same year, Pinal married her third husband, the politician Tulio Hernández,[7] who was the governor of the state of Tlaxcala at the time. Her marriage to Hernández brought her closer to his political career, and she became a deputy of the Congress of the Union of the DF, representative of the Assembly of Representatives of the DF, and senator of the Congress of the Union between 1994 and 2000.[8] In 2006, she received the commendation of the Order of Isabella the Catholic.[9][10]

Silvia Banquels, a theater and television actress, took the stage name Sylvia Pasquel in the late 1960s.[11] She married singer "Micky" Salas and had her first daughter, Stephanie Salas, in 1970. However, they divorced the same year.[12] Sylvia married Fernando Frade in 1983, and they had their first daughter, Viridiana Frade, who was named after Pasquel's half-sister, who had passed away a year earlier. Unfortunately, Viridiana also died in 1985 at the age of 2 in a swimming pool accident at Sylvia's house,[13][14] Sylvia divorced Frade the same year. Sylvia married Rodolfo Soberanis in 2000 but divorced in 2001.

Alejandra Guzmán is a renowned singer who has been active since 1988. Over the years, she has released 15 studio albums and sold over 30 million records. She is also a Latin Grammy Award winner. In 1998, Alejandra secretly married Farell Goodman, but the marriage ended in divorce the same year.[15] Her half-brother, Enrique Guzmán Welter, is from her father's second marriage. Meanwhile, Luis Enrique Guzmán, another half-brother of Alejandra, has a life outside of the arts and entertainment. He married Mayela Laguna and had his first child in 2019.

Stephanie Salas had a brief music career and has acted in several telenovelas. She was in a relationship with singer Luis Miguel from 1988 to 1992 and gave birth to their daughter, Michelle Salas, in 1989. However, Luis Miguel did not recognize Michelle and she bears Stephanie's surnames. Stephanie later had her second daughter, Camila Valero, with artist Pablo Valero in 1997. Michelle Salas is a model and influencer.

Frida Sofía is an entrepreneur and influencer based in Miami, Florida. She was baptized by the actress María Félix. She has publicly distanced herself from her family and made controversial statements against some members. In 2021, she accused her grandfather, Enrique Guzmán, of inappropriately touching her as a child. She also accused her uncle Luis Enrique, whom she referred to as "Leech Enrique," of taking advantage of his mother when she was hospitalized and stealing her personal belongings. Additionally, she accused her cousin Michelle of stealing from Silvia Pinal and called her "mustia."
