{{Infobox Gladiators Event}}
Spidercage was an event played in Gladiatorerna, the Swedish incarnation of the television series Gladiators, introduced for the show's fifth and final series. In this event, Contender and Gladiator attempt to grapple with each other to remove the opponent from a three metre square cage.
Rules
[edit]Contender and Gladiator are placed at opposite ends inside a three metre square cage with elasticated webbing on the sides and top. On the base is a red safety mat and around the webbing are many small hoops. On the whistle, the contender must climb onto the webbing and crawl around the cage to try to grab as many hoops as possible whilst evading the Gladiator. The Gladiator's job is to entangle the contender within the webbing to slow down their progress. Upon falling, the contender and the Gladiator must climb back into the webbing from the corners of the cage. The Gladiator always uses one corner that has a red column; the contender can choose between two corners that have white columns. The opposite corner of the red column is not used. 1 point would be awarded for each blue hoop the contender grabbed and 3 points for each red hoop. The red hoops are situated nearer the Gladiator's corner and near the centre of the ceiling. Neither Gladiator or contender are allowed to leave the cage until the event ends. Leaving the cage will result in disqualification. Gladiators are allowed to use their body to ensnare the contenders against the webbing but are not allowed to kick. The time limit is 45 seconds.
Event History
[edit]Sweden
[edit]- Years active: 2003-2004
Spidercage was only played in the Swedish edition of Gladiators, the last country to film a series of Gladiators before its 2008 revivals. Currently there are no plans for the Britain, America or Australia to adopt the event into their events roster. Other than Soccer Shootout, this was the only known event not to originate from either America or Britain.
