Richard Fred Roper Jr. (1932 or 1933 – January 11, 2010) was an American journalist and public relations entrepreneur. He received a Gerald Loeb Award while reporting for The Wall Street Journal and founded the public relations firm The Roper Company.
Early life
[edit]Roper was born to Monte Christian (Blalock) and Richard Fred Roper in 1932 or 1933.[1][2] His father was the Executive Secretary of the Democratic National Committee (1932–1935).[3] His paternal grandfather was the seventh U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Daniel C. Roper.[1] His uncle, John W. Roper, served in the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of Vice Admiral.[4]

[edit]Roper married his wife, Christine, c. 1982.[2]
Roper suffered a stroke while at his home in Topanga, California, on December 30, 2009, and died January 11, 2010.[2]
