Kite Realty Group is a real estate investment trust (REIT) based in Indianapolis, Indiana. As of June 30, 2018, the company owned 115 properties comprising 22.5 million square feet of space, 80% are neighborhood and community centers that are anchored by groceries or otherwise contain convenience oriented businesses[1].
History
[edit]In 1960, the company was founded by Al Kite as a painting, drywall, and construction business[2]. During the 1980s into the 1990s the company transitioned into a real estate developer focused on single tenant properties as well as developing a growing shopping center portfolio[3]. In 2004, the company became a public company, raising $211.9 million in an initial public offering[4]. In 2014, the company acquired a retail portfolio, primarily in the southeast, from Och Ziff, for $307 million [5]. Later in 2014, the company merged with Inland Diversified valued at $2.1 billion[6].
