[edit]The author of the article, Grant Wyeth, is a political analyst who has written on issues across the Indo-pacific region and has been published by a number of well-known and accredited journals and publications including the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and the Lowy Institute.[2]
The source gives an overview of the Muslim population in the Oceania region, which includes Australia and hundreds of its surrounding Islands in the South Pacific such as American Samoa. [3]
The classification of American Samoa as a territory of the United States is extremely important when looking at the 2002 decision to ban natives from a number of Middle Eastern and predominately Muslim countries as this decision was driven by a fear that association with the US would lead to potential conflicts in their territories.[4]
Furthermore, it is directly relevant to the article topic as it speaks of the religious landscape in American Samoa and the complexities that were associated with establishing a nation that is founded on God wherein governing and religious belief are thoroughly intertwined. [5]
