Christopher Abebe[edit]

Christopher Abebe (1919-N/A) was the Manager for African Staff Development and Training in 1958 and Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 1981.

Career[edit]

Christopher Abede joined UAC as Accounts Clerk at Uromi in Nigeria in 1935. He was appointed Labour Manager at Warri in 1951, the first African in the company’s service to attain this status.

In 1958 he was appointed Nigeria Manager for African Staff Development and Training, and was the first African to be appointed to the board of UAC of Nigeria in 1959. In 1972 he became deputy chairman, and in 1975 the first African Chairman and Managing Director of UAC of Nigeria Ltd. He resigned in 1980 after 45 years of service.

He was greatly respected for his qualities of judgement, integrity and contributions to the field of training and human resources. In 1981 he was appointed Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the first time in the twenty years of its existence that it had been awarded to anyone connected with UAC.[1]Cite error: The opening <ref> tag is malformed or has a bad name (see the help page).
