From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Delhi Daredevils (DD) is a franchise cricket team based in Delhi, India, and is a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL).[1] The team competed in the 2009 IPL and finished at the third place, thus qualified for the 2009 Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20). It topped the league and the group stage in the IPL and the CLT20 respectively; however, it failed to win any match in the latter stages.

After finishing fourth in the inaugural season, the Daredevils added players like Dirk Nannes, David Warner] and Andrew McDonald to the squad. The team won 10 of the 14 matches played in the league stage of the IPL and topped the point table. However, it lost in the semi-final against the Deccan Chargers. In the CLT20, it won and lost one match each in the group stage, but topped the stage because of better net run rate. However it was able to register only in single win in the three matches of the league stage, thus failing to advance to the semi-finals.

The Delhi Daredevils is owned by the GMR Group, which bought it for US$84 million.[1] It reached the semi-final in the 2008 season, but suffered a 105 run loss against the Rajasthan Royals.[2] Prior to the 2009 season, the team bought Dirk Nannes, David Warner and Andrew McDonald; Shikhar Dhawan was exchanged with Ashish Nehra from the Mumbai Indians.[3][4] Glenn McGrath confirmed his participation, but said that it "will depend on India's security situation."[5]
