Director’s response

[edit]

The reason for why director chooses the type of teenager crime to show her first long feature film is to raise public awareness of sexual crimes in the country.[2] And this is a deep-rooted problem that affects teenagers. Three main starrings Choi Tae-Joon, Kim Si-Hoo and Mun Ga-Young held a press conference and the film premiered at the Seoul Theater on the same day. The message conveyed by this film is that teenager sexual crimes should be treated as a social issue. The director said at the press conference: “This film emphasizes the psychological background of teenagers (participatory crimes), not their perception for the nature of crime. The director also mentioned that the highlight of the film is Se Jun’s personal character. He is bold and unwavering. When he found himself in a terrible and irreversible situation, he felt corrupted. Se Jun curled up in the corner of the bathroom, his head buried in his bloody knees. The scene shows that how a teenage boy’ world collapsed under the reality and shock. The director also praised that three starrings Choi Tae-Joon, Kim Si-Hoo and Mun Ga-Young are good at using “eye performances” and they are able to express emotions through their eyes. Choi also mentioned that this film was his first time on the big screen.

Two protagonists’ feelings toward each other

[edit]

Se Jun’s feeling for Yoon Zai is unique. Even if Yoon Zai did something that make Se Jun feel unhappy, he still could say “It does not matter, because it is you, so that is okay”. And he is very protective for Yoon Zai at school and at work. He would give a retaliation to the student who bullied Yoon Zai. For instance, Jeong Tae laughed Yoon Zai’ old phone, Se Jun broke the mobile phone of the leading student, Jeong Tae. Even Yoon Zai did not tell Se Jun the truth and made Se Jun feel unhappy. Se Jun just vented to the student who sit next to them, but did not lose his temper to Yoon Zai. Later after Yoon Zai went out of business, he helped Yoon Zai to clean crime place. At the end, he took all the accusation.

However, Yoon Zai did not show the strong emotion to Se Jun in the whole film. He just enjoys the feeling of being protected. He did not take the initiative to express anything. He had a guilty feeling for the victims, but still do this dirty job. Even Se Jun reminded him that he still hided to Se Jun and secretly went to work. Even if he likes the girl protagonist Eun Young, he did not confess to Se Jun. And the matter of his mother only told to Eun Young and did not tell to Se June, even hided to Se Jun. Therefore, it can be seen that he did not regard Se Jun as his best friend.
