Alison Winfield Burns
Alison Winfield Burns is a Scottish-American writer born in North Carolina. Her birth certificate reads Katherine Alison Burns, changed by court order to Alison Engaine Winfield at age 21. In 2013, she began writing as a journalist under the name Alison Winfield-Burns (the name she had used at Naropa as a teenage poet). In 2010 she wrote an unpublished memoir of her youth at the request of Sam Kashner. Winfield Burns and Kashner met at Naropa in 1982 and became officially betrothed to each other in Summer 2010, with an announcement at the New York City Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution annual membership tea. Kashner was married previously; Winfield Burns never engaged or married outside of her relationship with Kashner.
Godparents: Winfield Burns was confirmed at the Church of Santa Susanna, the National American Church in Rome, Italy. Prince Mario Chigi della Rovere was chosen as godfather but did not show up for the ceremony (Chigi was ex-communicated at the time for his second marriage). She has two recorded godmothers: Abbess Ildegarde Ghinassi of the Benedictine Camaldolesi Order and Lady Jeanne Louise Campbell. The ceremony was performed by Archbishop John P. Foley with Abbess Ildegarde present and youngest--age 15--daughter (Cusi Cram) of Lady Campbell as stand-in proxy in Campbell's sudden absence.
