Catherine Humphries is a transgender woman and squadron leader for the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). She was the first woman to take on a combat role in the RAAF. She appeared in a short documentary by The Feed in 2016 and was one of Cosmo Australia's top 50 most influential LGBTQ figures in 2017,

Career[edit]

Humphries joined the RAAF in 1997, before her transition. She was forced to take a leave when she came out as transgender in [year], due to women and transgender individuals not being allowed to serve in the military, but returned to her position as squadron leader in 2010 when the ban on trans people was lifted. In 2013 the ban on women serving in the Australian military was lifted for those already serving (???), but Humphries had already been serving, making her the first woman to hold a combat role in the RAAF.

She served Afghanistan and the Middle East
