Omwambalo Ngingawe[edit]

Omwambalo Ngingawe (Born July 14, 1997) is a professional Zimbabwean footballer, who currently plays for English Football League Two club Barnet F.C. while on loan from Saudi club Al Hilal. Commonly known as just "Omwambalo", or "Blackman" to game commentators, he is known for his inability to score goals even if the ball is served to him on a silver platter in front of a wide open goal while he is completely through.

Early Life[edit]

Omwambalo was born Omwambalo Ondungawe Jombaya Taki Taki Ngingawe in the Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, on July 14, 1997 to Omwambawe Ngingawe and Vimbainashe Ngongowa. When Omwambalo was 9 years old, his father and he traveled to get water from the nearest well, which was in Nigeria. They were walking down a narrow path in the Sambisa Forest when they were ambushed by a small group of Boko Haram militants. Omwambalo was carrying his father's AK-47 that they had for protection as his father was carrying the water on his back. In an interview in 2016, Omwambalo stated, "Being 9 years old, I was paralyzed with fear and could not pull the trigger of that rifle," When his father tried to reason with the militants, they gunned him down. His inability to take that shot to save his father is theorized to be the reason why today he can't shoot a football to save his life.

Club Career[edit]

Omwambalo began his career at the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League club Harare City. He made his senior side debut on September 13, 2016 in an away match against Bulawayo City, in which they lost 2-0. After a spell of good performances, he transferred to Al Hilal. While at Al Hilal, he made one appearance in a game against Colombian side Once Caldas in which he sustained an upper body injury in the 54th minute and had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher. After being out for 3 games and left off the roster for 4 more, he signed a loan contract with Barnet F.C that will last for the remainder of the 2016-17 season.

Personal Life[edit]

Omwambalo is the oldest of 5 children. He currently lives with his uncle in Edgware, London, United Kingdom.
