Happy editing! - Jack Sebastian (talk) 06:43, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The above seemingly friendly Welcome message is very strange, as it comes shortly after User:Jack Sebastian SHOUTING and SWEARING at me and expounding strange offtopic theories about Star Wars fans being racist, which have little or nothing to do with improving The Book of Boba Fett article.[1] I'm going to assume it was a momentary lapse, or a misunderstanding on his part. Sometimes we edit when tired, and don't live up to the standards of civil discourse or even our own best standards. The nice thing you could do now is to not comment further here. If you have comments about how to improve the articles please comment on the relevant article talk pages. -- 109.79.73.117 (talk) 13:06, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It was intended as friendly, Anon109. While I admit that I failed to AGF, making assumptions about my edits is just as unfriendly and off-topic as you state that I was. I am overly sensitive about racism in SW, mostly because I love the franchise and hate some of its terrible racist mistakes, which are further compounded by a largely toxic fanbase. I am sorry if you felt I painted you with that brush as well, and I do mean that, just like I meant to be welcoming here, as you had provided good edits. But you do you; take my apology or don't. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 19:13, 4 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It went beyond WP:AGF, it was the WP:UNCIVIL swearing and shouting that made it feel like an attack instead of a difference of opinion. The inarticulate and ugly expression of rage by a vocal few in fandom is part a reflection of society as a whole, but the fanbase is not the real problem, failure to produce better stories is the problem. The misuse Finn was the biggest missed opportunity, that was unfair to John Boyega and everyone else too.
But this has little to do with writing better encyclopedia articles. -- 109.79.69.204 (talk) 07:17, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed, it really doesn't. I've explained why I reacted the way I did, and I have apologized for my presumption of your intentions. If you are not inclined to accept that, the problem becomes more you-shaped. We agree about the nearly criminal misuse of Boyega's Finn in the trilogy - likely the potential love of the white heroine being a Black man was enough to make some - and it was a shitload more than 'a vocal few' who were outraged. So the writers introduce a potential love interest in the form of Naomi Ackie's Jannah, who just happens to be the right color to be Finn's love interest.
So, as the race issues with SW tend to run quite deep throughout the entire run of the films, I'm always on the lookout for even subtle bias being added to these articles.
Let's move on. - Jack Sebastian (talk) 08:53, 5 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
