Thank you Orangemike for your assistance. I changed my username per your instructions. Also, be advised the article/page was not created nor was it intended for the purpose of furthering a cause or promotion of the organization for which the information and history was written and referenced. There are no links or points of contact info for promotional purposes associated with the article/page. Many other articles/pages in the same category were referenced to ensure conformity and uniformity with other similar articles/pages of the same category. Here are a few key questions:
- Do you understand that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, and not a business directory?
- Do you understand conflict of interest?
- Do you understand that to be considered for an encyclopedia article, the subject must be notable?
You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 00:07, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Thank you Daniel. (I do understand that Wikipedia is not a business directory. I am a Soldier and combat Veteran in the United States Army, I guess I am considered directly related to anything within that subject matter to include its units and the history thereof. So, can I assume that any article related to the United States Army that I edit will be considered a conflict of interest? Since I reference Wikipedia and use it often, I was ask to take the information and references regarding the history, lineage, and honors of this unit (that are validated by the references to the Center of Military History and United States Institute of Heraldry) that I was furnished and create the 117th Military Police Battalion on Wikipedia within the categories of "like" and sister military police battalions. There are hundreds of other U.S. Army units listed in hundreds of categories throughout Wikipedia that are no different than this one. If the problem is the username being "117thmpbn" and all of the editing being done with that username then I sincerely apologize for any violations and have since created another account under a different username as I was instructed. I realize that a change in username alone is not an excuse for violating any Wikipedia policies and any and all violations were unintended. It is my understanding that the 117th Military Police Battalion can now be edited by anyone. I will continue to read the policies referenced above and it is my hope that the 117th military police battalion will still be available on Wikipedia like the hundreds of other pages reflecting the history, lineage, and honors of other military units. I always appreciate any assistance or guidance in correcting errors and guidance in order to stay within the guidelines. 117thmpbn (talk) 03:12, 14 November 2013 (UTC))
Disregard request to unblock username "117thmpbn". New user account created. It is not important that previous contributions be attributed to my new username. As always your assistance and help is appreciated. 117thmpbn (talk) 03:29, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
Change: See request below for username change. I was not aware that the connected contributor tag will remain as long as the contributing username could be interpreted as a conflict of interest due to the username and article subject similarity.
- The name led us to assume that you were a member (past or present) of that unit. Don't worry: if no vets could edit any articles on any unit of their service, this would be a much weaker encyclopedia indeed! --Orange Mike | Talk 03:49, 14 November 2013 (UTC) (son and brother of vets (WW2 and Korean occupation respectively); scion of a loyal West Tennessee family that gave two of its sons fighting for the Union against the secesshes)
Thank you Orangemike and a big thank you for your notable family's service throughout the years. Will you be removing the COI/connected contributor tag from the 117th Military Police Battalion's talk page? Thanks again. 117thmpbn (talk) 19:17, 14 November 2013 (UTC)
