AfC notification: Draft:Incels.is has a new comment
[edit]I removed the content about the founders because NYT does not support it so it is a Biographies of living people policy violation. Be very, very careful about WP:SYNTH. If the source(s) does not explicitly support the claim, then the claim should not be included. S0091 (talk) 00:45, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- Most sources refer to the website by one alias or the other. So would it make sense to not include them because they mention one said alias? I think those there are definitely the limits to WP:SYNTH. I think that it is acceptable to assume that a thing in one source is the same as in another source when there is an abundance of sources covering them. 128.6.37.171 (talk) 00:55, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- What you are describing is WP:SYNTH,
Do not combine material from multiple sources to reach or imply a conclusion not explicitly stated by any source
, so no, that is not allowed. If you have done the same with other content then you need to remove it. I caught it with the founders so I removed all mention of them in the draft but given your approach, I fear there may be more. You need to correct all instances of synthesis. Wikipedia only summarizes what the sources state, no editorializing or drawing conclusions, etc. I also urge you, if you are going to stick around, to create an account as it is more anonymous than editing as an IP. IPs are tied to locations and can be tied to institutions, etc. Not to mention it is much easier to from a communication perspective. S0091 (talk) 01:14, 2 May 2023 (UTC)- Say Article 1 says "Donald Trump went to the store" and Article 2 says "Donald Trump went to the beach". Then, and editor tries to include "Donald Trump went to the store and at the beach". There is no conclusion (as in WP:SYNTH) to take whether Donald Trump (1) is Donald Trump (2), it is obvious. So it wouldn't be fair to call it synthesis. Same with the article's founders and "incels.co", "incels.is" etc "sanctionedsuicide.com". There is a breadth of sources covering all of them individually and collectively. 128.6.37.171 (talk) 01:21, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- Ok, now going through the sources I see Vox supports .co was .me, then The Daily supports .me is now .is. However, generally student newspapers are not considered reliable sources so The Daily could be contested so suggest a better source, if possible. You do not have a source that supports Alek Minassian was a member (if I missed something please point where it is supported), only that members praised him so you need either find a source or update the draft to simply say members praised him. I also suggest covering Jack Richard Peterson who is (was?) a notable member as was Nathan Larson (criminal) (first Vox article supports Larson) and Murder of Bianca Devins. You might be able to find some other good sources in the Peterson article. Please ping me if you respond. S0091 (talk) 15:59, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- I also wonder if the title of the it should be Incels.me instead per WP:COMMONNAME but would like your thoughts. (Note: redirects can be created to support other names). S0091 (talk) 16:18, 2 May 2023 (UTC)
- I think it is currently and has stayed the longest under the .is url, so I think maybe it would confuse people browsing it. I think this is just a WP:NAMECHANGES not really an alternate name because the other urls are dead but have been used previously. User:Username.
- You are right, there are no sources that support Minassian. 128.6.37.171 (talk) 13:22, 3 May 2023 (UTC)

- Fair enough about the title. I also created a redirect for .co. In the future be very careful you only summarize what the sources actually say. S0091 (talk) 13:59, 3 May 2023 (UTC)
