Notification of Proposed Deletion of AutoCanada

[edit]
Notice

The article AutoCanada has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

lack reliable sources, advertisement, see WP:NOT

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello Elfabet Thank you for reaching out and explaining this to me. I am in the process of trying to edit the page to remove any advertisement wording and to also add more credibility to the page by citing some sources. I am wondering if you might be able to provide some assistance and direction on how to properly do this without the page having to be deleted. Thank you for your support. 173.214.128.27 (talk) 19:58, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings IP, and thank you for your contributions. It's an admirable task, improving an article to quality. As to your question, the first welcome left here on your talk page (which I admit, may have been in error, but the wording was what flagged it for me) has a number of great links for what your asking after.
Additionally, I could only recommend WP:DEV, espeically WP:DEVELOP which should get you the core of improving articles in a meaningful way. Finally, don't ever be afraid to ask for more help at the Teahouse -- thee place for newer editors like ourselves to get help with editing wikipedia.
(Finally, and this is just an aside, consider registering an account - it's free! - and as editors talk and discuss we tend to sign our posts with four tildes, '~', so we know who's talking (sometimes a bot comes along and adds a signature/time stamp for you later, but it's a courtesy to remember ourselves).)
Thanks again for wanting to help improve this encylopedia. --Cheers! Elfabet (talk) 20:14, 12 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Another thought after seeing those company announcements you've added as References is that they probably won't count as reliable sources for establishing the notability of the subject as a whole. They may be accurate for the purpose of the lists of ownership and mergers, but news announcements from the subject's website hardly ever are accepted as scholarly. I'd have a look at Finding Sources to see if the subject has been written about by neutral, 3rd parties. (Although, again, I'm having trouble imagining what would be written about a car dealership. Perhaps their charitiable contributions and annual fundraisers were recorded in local press? Their owners were in the paper for non-promotional reasons? The length of quality service merited an entire documentary-style expose?) The best thing to do is find quality sources to really take it stellar article status. --Cheers! Hello Elfabet (talk) Thank you very much for all the information and clarification. I have gone through and added some citations from a variety of sources and I was wondering if you could take a look and let me know if there is anything that I am missing. I am also hoping that the deletion of the page would be cancelled. Thanks very much! 173.214.128.27 (talk) 16:46, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I gotta say, I'm impressed. You've done a remarkable job improving it the last couple days here. Ultimately, it's not up to me to decide the notability of such a page, nor the reliablility of every source. I will leave such things to future editors, who hopefully have more experience in the exercise.
That all said, I woudln ot be oppossed, at this point, to the removal of the WP:PROD. I would still encourage further development, if you're so inclined, especially into the historic value of the company, and its impact on society.

Hello Elfabet (talk) Thank you again for all your help with this!! I am glad that the edits addressed some of the previous concerns that were outlined for this article. I could do further development on the document as well, however, as the WP:PROD says the page could be deleted by October 19, would it possible to have this removed sooner, so that there is more time to improve the article? Also, is the removal of the WP:PROD something that you could help me with? Or is this something that I would need to do? I read the instructions on the page you sent me for Undeletion, but I am not sure if that is something that I would need to do. Thanks again for all of your help. I so appreciate it! 173.214.128.27 (talk) 19:25, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Either of us could do it, or, an admin will come by and make a final vote sometime on (or more likely, after) the 19th. If you do decide to go ahead and remove it, please make your edit summary clear and reflective as to why. I would go so far as to post notice on the article's talk page that the template has been levied, and removed along with the dates and your arguements. (That was one of the things I had to check against before I could put the template on in the first place.) --Cheers! Elfabet (talk) 19:39, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Elfabet Thanks again for this information. I am very new to Wikipedia editing so this has been a great learning experience for me so far! I appreciate your explanations and your patience. Since I am new, I am finding the process of removing the tag a bit confusing, and I was wondering if I could request your support in removing the tag? I am worried about not properly removing this in the coding of the site. I believe that I went into the AutoCanada Wikipedia page talk page, and I wrote some explanations for the proposed removal of the WP:PROD but I was not able to then see those explanations reflected. As you have more experience that I do, could you still remove this tag? I am happy to provide you with the explanations, and if you could let me know where to post those, that would be so helpful. Thank you!173.214.128.27 (talk) 20:18, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey-oh again. Just in case it has something to do with IP's and creating Talk Pages, I've started a Discussion section on the talk page. You're welcome to edit my introduction for the sole purpose of adding your proposition. Please also add your argurements below (signed, of course~) and then we can perhaps list the discussion at the WP:Teahouse or one of the other boards that ask for more eyes. At the very least, your points will give the admin something to consider when they do get around to adressing template. --Cheers! Elfabet (talk) 20:57, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Elfabet This makes perfect sense! Thank you. I saw your addition to the talk page and so I will go onto that page and make my notes there so that it is clear to the editor that I would like to make sure the article is updated properly, and doesn't need to be deleted. Thank you again for all of your help throughout the process. This has been a great learning opportunity and you have been so helpful throughout! 173.214.128.27 (talk) 22:29, 17 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ya did it, IP, the PROD has been removed. Congrats! In your moving forward with this and doubtless other articles, I just want to leave you with one more pieec of reading, and that is the notability guidelines, and specifically, Notable Company Guidelines. This is what we editors use to help determine what's valuable to include on this encyclapedia. Hopefully you can keep finding great sources as to demonstrate the value of knowing about these topics.
