Information icon Hello, I'm FuriouslySerene. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Doug Saunders, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! FuriouslySerene (talk) 13:21, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, 174.88.144.112. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Doug Saunders, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. FuriouslySerene (talk) 13:35, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of Edit warring noticeboard discussion

[edit]

Information icon Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion involving you at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring regarding a possible violation of Wikipedia's policy on edit warring. The thread is Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#User:174.88.144.112 reported by User:FuriouslySerene (Result: ). Thank you. FuriouslySerene (talk) 13:40, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Non-controversial material

[edit]

Conflict of interest is not an issue here. We are NOT adding controversial or new material, or any material at all, to this post. We are simply bringing citation references up to date. Adding a reference to (and therefore reverting) non-controversial biographical material already existing in the entry does not conflict with Wiki conflict-of-interest guidelines

Please read WP:BLP and WP:COI. All information, even positive information, must be sourced. You are adding information, such as saying his column comes "from a political perspective that is broadly rooted ideologically in social democracy and economically in liberalism", which has no source. Additionally, since you have said you work at the Globe and Mail and have an external relationship with Saunders, you are required to avoid editing the page. FuriouslySerene (talk) 14:04, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No text or information, positive or negative or neutral, is being added. This is all existing text which had been removed due to lack of citation. Citations have been updated per reliable sources so this text may be reverted as it comes from cited source (official biography)
      • Apologies, the "...political perspective" sentence was not meant to be restored, as it is not cited in official bio reference. Will fix

You have been blocked from editing for a period of 3 days for edit warring. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by first reading the guide to appealing blocks, then adding the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

During a dispute, you should first try to discuss controversial changes and seek consensus. If that proves unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection.

The full report is at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Edit warring#User:174.88.144.112 reported by User:FuriouslySerene (Result: Blocked). Besides having a conflict of interest and engaging in edit warring, you are also copying verbatim text from the Globe and Mail's web site into our article. Since the Globe & Mail must consider their own material copyrighted, from our point of view this is a copyright violation. Thank you, EdJohnston (talk) 15:52, 12 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
