[edit]Hello, I'm Geardona. I noticed that you recently removed content from Central European University without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. - Please also see Wikipedia:ARBPIA, and discuss on the talk page before making further edits. Geardona (talk to me?) 18:37, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- Did you read my edit summary? Did you read the content you restored? 2001:62A:4:31:77:80:62:196 (talk) 18:44, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, as a matter of fact I did, I considered options regarding that for a solid minute. The content was cited to sources, that yes, were not ideal, but were supported by other sources. I encourage you to read the policy here, as I can see that this IP is registered to the university. I am going to place a little explainer here about WP:CTOPS, I encourage you to look through there, and then make a request on the talk page. Geardona (talk to me?) 18:50, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- I am not interested in the political topic itself at all. My motivation was nothing political, but aesthetic. I just thought it was very ugly, first twitter is not reliable source and second they cited it with wrong citation style and it looks very ugly in the reference section. Apart from the twitter thing, mentioning these events with a large text is not propotional to the article. 2001:62A:4:31:77:80:62:196 (talk) 19:11, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
- You are correct that Twitter/X is a generally unreliable source but if it is written by an esteemed member of the organization, it can be discussed in the talk page about the validity of the twitter/X post. Using cite web and cite twitter can both be used when citing a twitter link, it does not matter. Claiming to remove a citation because they used the wrong citation source, is not a valid reason to remove sources. I also wish for you to read Policy on Conflict of Interest. Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
