Harold Wilson

[edit]

Hi - thanks for taking an interest in this article and trying to improve it. There are certain forms of writing that we are careful to avoid, however. You wrote But Wilson, who, unlike Winston, was born a commoner, was never made a Companion of Honour as his forerunner was. This gives the impression that Wilson was not made a Companion of Honour because he had been born a commoner. That may well be true, but if it is then we should say that directly, and the assertion should be sourced. For example: "Unlike Churchill, Wilson had been born a commoner, and so was not made a Companion of Honour as Churchill was." - this would then be cited to a reliable source. We could still include it even if it's speculation by an expert in the field, for example: "Unlike Churchill, Wilson had been born a commoner, which, according to Professor Knowledgeable in his 1996 book Everything you ever wanted to know about Harold Wilson, but couldn't be bothereed to ask meant that he was ineligible for the role of Companion of Honour, which Churchill was made in 19whatever". I hope that makes sense - try to stay factual and direct, rather than imply meaning. Cheers GirthSummit (blether) 15:55, 27 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
