Sourcing and notability

I want to leave you a more detailed note as to why I've reverted your edit [1] on Self Destruction Blues. At Wikipedia, the aim is to include only information that can be verified and that is considered notable. Sources like Bandcamp and Discogs are not considered reliable mainly because the content is user-generated and doesn't go through any kind of editorial oversight. There's a page at Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Perennial sources that lists sources that have been discussed and the community consensus that resulted. There, Discogs is deemed "generally unreliable", and in the entry for it, you will see links to the archived discussions that formed this consensus.

I'll bet 99.4% of the entries on those sites are accurate, but that doesn't indicate notability. It only verifies that such an album or song exists. That's why a secondary source is usually relied upon to support notability. It means a trusted publisher thought it was noteworthy, and reported on it (not as a directory or catalogue, but as news or opinion). It's generally accepted that if a subject has an article of its own, then Wikipedia considers it notable.

At Arguments to avoid on discussion pages, there's a section on What about other content?. The principle is that just because something is in another place, it doesn't justify it being in [insert place here]. Edits are expected to be argued on their own merit. The bottom line is that Wikipedia is curated by the Wikipedia community as a whole (including you), and each of us does their best to interpret and apply the policies and guidelines that have evolved over years of discussion. And I expect you'll be disappointed, but I've removed all the covers that have neither valid source nor article. I see you know how to wield the 'cite web' template, and took the time to craft that entry, so I hope this rejection of the edits doesn't dissuade you from applying your skills and interests to other improvements of the encyclopedia.
