Request reason:

Caught by a colocation web host block but this host or IP is not a web host. My IP address is 27.33.172.241. I was asked to apply again and copy in the entire text for declining account creation. Text follows- Account creation error Account creation from IP addresses in the range 168.1.0.0/16, which includes your IP address (27.33.172.241), has been blocked by SQL. The reason given by SQL is Server-multiple.svg The IP address that you are currently using has been blocked because it is believed to be a web host provider or colocation provider. To prevent abuse, web hosts and colocation providers may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. You will not be able to edit Wikipedia using a web host or colocation provider. Since the web host acts like a proxy, because it hides your IP address, it has been blocked. To prevent abuse, these IPs may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. If you do not have any other way to edit Wikipedia, you will need to request an IP block exemption. If you do not believe you are using a web host, you may appeal this block by adding the following text on your talk page.... Please help or point me to the process by which I can get this fixed. I need to update info for a company I am involved with and working with. Thanks. 27.33.172.241 (talk) 20:19, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

So, this IP isn’t in that range and isn’t in a range that is blocked. I’m not really sure what to tell you. TonyBallioni (talk) 20:30, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

(edit conflict)Obviously won't review this as it's one of my blocks. Info for the next admin: https://tools.wmflabs.org/whois/gateway.py?lookup=true&ip=168.1.0.0 appears to be the range in question, which is a softlayer / webhost ip. I saw this relatively recently with an Opera proxy. It's possible that the end-user is using a VPN or other anonymizing service that passes XFF headers? The solution in the Opera case, was to switch browsers (effectively disabling the anonymizing software), which would be standard advice to an editor that can't edit due to VPN use. Any admin is free to overturn or modify my block on 167.1.0.0 if they feel it's appropriate to do so. SQLQuery me! 20:33, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
