York Centre

[edit]

Because I see that you were involved in a heavy recurring edit war at York Centre last night, please note that Wikipedia does not make our own personal predictions about the winner of an election: we do not mark people as the "presumed" winner of the election just because they happen to be leading the vote count at any particular time, but rather we wait until the winner has been formally called by external sources before we say anything at all on here. That is, listing Julius Tiangson as the holder of York Centre in advance of any media outlet officially declaring him elected, just because he happened to be leading the vote count at the time, is not a thing we do on here — and the fact that the lead flipped back and forth during the count, and Ya'ara Saks actually won the seat in the end, is exactly the reason why we don't do that.

So from now on, don't do anything until a person has been declared the winner of the election by external sources — we are not a place for you to make your own personal predictions about who's likely to win, but a place where we wait until we know who did win. That's an order, not a request, and please be aware that you can actually be temporarily or permamently blocked from editing Wikipedia, on WP:DISRUPT grounds, if you choose to disobey it in the future.

In addition, we also have a rule called WP:3RR which is designed to prevent editwarring: you are not allowed to revert the same content back into or out of the article more than three times. You unequivocally broke that rule last night, because you reverted it five or six times in a matter of minutes — to be fair, you may not have known about that rule, and the issue is clearly over now since Saks has been declared the winner of the seat and there are no grounds on which to even attempt to continue editwarring over Tiangson anymore, but for future reference 3RR is also a rule you can be temporarily or permanently editblocked for disobeying. If you feel an urge to editwar, you need to discuss, not editwar. Bearcat (talk) 15:19, 27 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]
