Hello, I'm Doniago. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on James Duval, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! DonIago (talk) 01:04, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- The date of birth for the James Duval came from IMDB. If this is not a reliable source, please advise. 70.26.118.27 (talk) 05:28, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- It is not, per WP:RS/IMDb. DonIago (talk) 05:54, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- OK. It's odd that for some individuals, dates of birth are not reported on Wikipedia. Could this not have been marked as "unverified", if IMDB is not considered by Wikipedia to be "reliable"? This seems to be better than to simply not give a date of birth. Of course, I do not wish to belabour this point, as in many circles, Wikipedia itself is held with some suspicion as well. I use Wikipedia as a "starting point" in Internet searches, but rely more on the "primary sources" in the footnotes accompanying entries. I confess that this was drilled into me in university. Papers not adequately footnoted with primary sources produced poor marks. 70.26.118.27 (talk) 06:09, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Per WP:BLP, unverified info generally should not be included in biographies of living people if it's potentially controversial. If this wasn't a BLP article and the info had been in the article for a long time, I might have just tagged it for needing a citation for the time-being.
- Yeah, Wikipedia makes for nice reading, but I'd never trust anything 100% that wasn't sourced, and potentially not even then, because sometimes WP misstates the sources or there are other issues.
- Hope this is helpful! DonIago (talk) 16:53, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
