Thomas Eichorst[edit]

Thanks for pointing out the WP:NOTHERE signs in the edit filter log. I've gone ahead and blocked the user.

The reason I declined the report initially was because the majority of Wikipedia vandalism ends after one or two edits. The account is simply abandoned. As you know, WP:AIV can get backlogged, and it is rather severely backlogged now. Although I think no one would have objected if the account were blocked right away without warnings (as I did here), if every account that makes just one vandalistic edit is reported to WP:AIV, the noticeboard would become extremely backlogged. Administrators would be overwhelmed. Instead, we should prioritize only the accounts that are vandalizing persistently and in spite of warnings. This is my take on why we expect to see multiple warnings prior to reporting to AIV (unless the vandalism is rapid or particularly egregious) – it's to reduce the backlog/ease the workload, more than anything else. Something to think about, I suppose.

In any case, none of this is to say your reports to AIV aren't appreciated. Thank you for dedicating the time to countering vandalism on Wikipedia! Mz7 (talk) 06:18, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
