December 2012[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that the username you have chosen, "AdConnectionUK", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or have the appearance of shared use. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 15:16, 3 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.  You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username doesn't represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. If you prefer to be unblocked for the purpose of changing your username to a username which complies with our username policy, so that your contributions with this username are recorded as contributions of your new username and rather than creating a new account, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice instead. Thank you. This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I was not aware of this username policy when I created the account but am happy to complyAdConnectionUK (talk) 13:21, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

Decline reason:

Although the blocking administrator for some reason chose to mention only the username, that is not the only, nor even the main, issue. Your account has been used for no purpose other than to write an advertisement for your business. Wikipedia is not a free advertising service, and using Wikipedia for promotional purposes is contrary to Wikipedia policy. If you wish to be unblocked you will need to both be willing to change your username and persuade an administrator that you intend to contribute to the encyclopaedia in a way unrelated to your business. I am giving further details below. JamesBWatson (talk) 21:06, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 16:21, 6 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I do understand all of these things. Please be aware that this is my first Wikipedia entry and I obviously did not do my homework on user name policies. On notability - AdConnection is one of the top 10 advertising media agencies in the UK - Campaign Business Rankings. Other media agencies which also appear in the rankings - such as The7stars - have a wikipedia page, thus I deemed AdConnection to also be 'noteable' enough for a page to be created. I am not trying to promote AdConnection. I genuinely believe that it warrants a Wikipedia entry, and plan to add to it in the future as I gather more information so that it is more comprehensive. - NikitaBaynes, 6 December 2012.

Nikita, you don't seem to have fully grasped the concept of conflict of interest yet, and you should also know that the existence of a similar article can never justify the existence of another - it's quite possible that The7stars doesn't belong either. As a minimum, The7stars was most likely not written by someone involved in the business, as per COI. (✉→BWilkins←✎) 11:01, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: The7Stars is now the subject of a deletion discussion (✉→BWilkins←✎) 12:17, 7 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
...and it has now been deleted. JamesBWatson (talk) 21:06, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing, because this account has been used only for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to Wikipedia policy. Also, your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation, which is also against policy. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a free advertising service.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you will probably not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.

Please note that, in order for your request to have a reasonable chance of success, you must address the conflict of interest issue, and make it clear that your editing will not be promotional, and will not be made on behalf of your business or other organisation.

If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Another The7stars page has recently been created with a new Wikipedia URL following the deletion of the original page. This is the new URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The7stars and this is the original, deleted page URL: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The7Stars I believe the new page should also be subject to deletion.
