Ok could we change the wording of the sentence? Because saying that the pope both claimed and exercised the right to depose Henry VIII is misleading. That implies that Henry VIII was forcefully removed from kingship by the papacy. You know that didn't happen. While you're reference does say that, that's not how 'deposed' is used, at least now. What if it read: "Moreover, throughout the Middle Age the Pope claimed the right to depose the kings of Western Europe, such as was the case with Henry VIII and Elizabeth I of England or Henry III of Navarre[1]." I think this is more accurate, because face it: by the normal use of 'deposed', neither Henry VIII nor Elizabeth were deposed. And saying "Catholic" is innacurate, because Henry VIII was an apostate and Elizabeth never really was Catholic, as far as I know. O and please don't just delete your talk page to clean it; it's bad faith. If you want it clean, please be so kind as to archive it so it doesn't look like you try to hide vandalism. I'd be more than happy to give a formal retraction of my warning above, noting that you did provide a ref in response to it. Carl.bunderson (talk) 02:39, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The popes certainly claimed the right to depose kings and tried to exercised it, albeit (I'll give you) fruitlessly. I'll change my edits on the matter to reflect this reality. I'll also give you that Elizabeth I was not a baptized Catholic; she doesn't fit as an example of "Catholic" monarch, so I'll take her out. As to the right to edit my talk page -- I have every right. It is, after all, my talk page, not an article's, and I can clean it up as I see fit. If you want your misinformed edits/warnings on my unproven vandalism or on any other topic immortalized, please, post them in an article discussion (talk) page, wherefrom their deletion is banned. I was not an uninformed editor. At the time you had no reference, and my concern was completely legitimate. Carl.bunderson (talk) 02:55, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Legitimate only for somebody not informed enough in well-known history matters, like yourself... Adversus hereticos (talk) 03:03, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
