Peer Review Todd Haynes: chjkim94

[edit]

Hey Ahaddad93! I was viewing the talk page for Todd Haynes, and I saw that you wanted to add some information about his studies at Brown University, but was told that IMDb was not a reliable source to use. I agree that IMDb is not a very reliable source to use, but I liked the idea of you wanted to add more about his studies at Brown. Haynes is a well-known person in the film world, and I'm sure anyone who is a fan or interested in the film world would want to know about his education background. I found an brief excerpt from a book called Todd Haynes: Interview where Haynes describes how his academic background had a bearing on his filmmaking practice. He mentions his High School academics and also his time in Brown. During this interview, Haynes also talks about his view on being a filmmaker. What he could do with film and what he could represent. This would have been great to add into his Style/Themes or even under his background information. He got a lot of his inspiration/ideas while study film in college. The excerpt is just a preview of the whole interview, but I'm sure you can rent the book for somewhere.

I also found a lot of video interview with Haynes about the movie Safe. Although he has plenty of interview about his other films, I picked Safe since we watched it in class. You can use these interview to discuss maybe his view on the film, what he was trying to get out of it, what the film represented, etc.

Plague Article

[edit]

Nice start on the plague article. I am concerned about the sources, particularly "downsizinggoverment.org" - I think you should do more detailed academic research and take advantage of the library. Professorsmith (talk) 14:52, 16 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Marine Hospital Service

[edit]

Hi. Your additions to the Marine Hospital Service article included passages copied verbatim or nearly verbatim US federal government sources. While re-use of this material is acceptable on Wikipedia in copyright terms, it needs to be clearly marked where it was borrowed from, so that others may check the copyright status. More importantly, for your purposes, since you didn't indicate that this was copied text, there are potential plagiarism concerns. To be safe, I reverted your edit, but you should feel free to reinstate the content once it's clearly indicated where it's borrowed from. Please review the Plagiarism and Copyright training module before proceeding further. Thanks. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:16, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I was in the works of editing and adding my citations, but when I went back to save the material, all my work was deleted. Wikipedia told me that there was an issue with someone else reverting my additions. Ahaddad93 (talk) 21:19, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted your additions because it was tagged by plagiarism-detection software. And while you added sources, you're still using someone else's words, without making it clear that they aren't your own. You need to make it clear that you copied the text from these sources, otherwise this is still plagiarism, even with a citation. Ian (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:58, 17 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
You may want to work on your edits in your sandbox first since you are making a substantial edit to the page. Professorsmith (talk) 15:31, 18 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
