August 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Girth Summit. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Ganesha, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. GirthSummit (blether) 14:23, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It's believed that lord Ganesha was born in Triyambakeshwar Nashik. AkshayPravinPatil (talk) 14:29, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AkshayPravinPatil, that may well be so - you need to provide a reference to a reliable, published source to support that assertion before inserting it into article though, and it needs to be included in the body of the text (with an appropriate source) before it should be added to the infobox. We don't write what we know - we write what we can evidence by reference to sources. This is discussed in more detail at WP:V. Best GirthSummit (blether) 14:31, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Please also familiarise yourself with the concept of edit warring. If you make and edit, and somebody disagrees and undoes it, you are expected to discuss it with them and come to agreement before reinstating it. Best GirthSummit (blether) 14:33, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

AkshayPravinPatil, A Wikipedia article is not a reliable source. See WP:RS, specifically WP:UGC. GirthSummit (blether) 14:35, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. But can you verify it ? AkshayPravinPatil (talk) 14:38, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How would I verify it? The content is not sourced in that article either. What is needed here is a scholarly work on Hindu religion discussing Ganesha, which indicates that he was born there. GirthSummit (blether) 14:39, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. Thank you sir. Will work on this sure ! AkshayPravinPatil (talk) 14:42, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Birth place of lord Ganesha[edit]

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trimbak In this article it's said that "Godavari originates from the Brahmagiri hills in this town and it is believed that it is the birthplace of Lord Ganesha, known as place of Tri-Sandhya Gayatri". Please see this and someone add this. AkshayPravinPatil (talk) 14:37, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As I said above, Wikipedia articles are not reliable sources, and the assertion in that article isn't sourced either. The reader cannot verify that the information is accurate, therefore it should not be present in any article. The one about Trimbak is of less importance, but Ganesha is very highly viewed, and is a featured article - nobody should be adding unsourced content to it.
