Speedy deletion of Alex Grim

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Alex Grim requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. // Chris (complaints)(contribs) 00:06, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed the speedy deletion of the Alex Grim article and hope I might be able to provide some insight. The reason it was tagged was because it does not indicate why the subject at hand is notable. While artist pages are extremely common on Wikipedia, having no releases makes it difficult for people to consider the artist notable. My own bit of advice would be to use an existing artist's page as a form of a template to fill out your own information and to gather all information before making an article. Of course that is just my two cents.  :) Bvlax2005 (talk) 00:59, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I saw your note on the Alex Grim deletion. Unfortunately, Wikipedia has some fairly strict requirements for notability to have an article in Wikipedia. Musicians (or authors, politicians, scientists, etc.) must be fairly famous, which generally means a reasonable level of news or other third party coverage. See WP:BAND for more information. I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Wikipedia also discourages you from writing about topics which you have a personal interest in (such as your autobiography), since it is a conflict of interest. If you have any questions, please let me know (just write a note on the bottom of my talk page, User_talk:TeaDrinker). Thanks, --TeaDrinker (talk) 01:06, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note. First, what we call deleted isn't really, it is just hidden from public view. An administrator can still restore the page if it was deleted in error (see also Wikipedia:Deletion review). You are quite correct that WP:BAND is not a speedy deletion criteria; I deleted under criteria for speedy deletion Article criterion 7, no assertion of notability. Had there been a close call somewhere in the process (such as deciding if a label was "large enough" or a review were significant enough), it would have gone to articles for deletion for debate. As it was, however, the article made no claims which gave it a chance of surviving WP:AFD, so a speedy deletion was in order. Please don't take it as an insult or a slight on your music; Wikipedia can not do a good job of covering material which has not been widely covered in the news or has not been widely heard. I hope this helps, --TeaDrinker (talk) 01:31, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
