November 2008 (http://spam.granta.com)[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by some search engines, including Google. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. MER-C 09:58, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is the last warning you will receive for your disruptive edits. The next time you insert a spam link, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. You have been blocked for a period of 2 weeks from editing in accordance with Wikipedia's blocking policy for continuing to add spam links. If you wish to make useful contributions, you are welcome to come back after the block expires. Persistent spammers will have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia and potentially penalized by search engines. If you believe this block is unjustified, you may contest the block by adding the text {{unblock|your reason here}} below. GlassCobra 10:09, 19 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Alex Fiennes: I am unsure if this is the correct place to leave a reply to the above message, but we shall see if it has an effect. I am sorry if the recent flurry of External Links has been deemed spam - to the best of my knowledge I was linking directly to work authored by the individual represented by the page that I was authoring and as such I didn't realise that this would be classified as spam. I shall review the guidelines for external links. GlassCobra: If you receive this message then could you let me know because I am unsure as to whether I'm responding in the correct location.

Alex Fiennes: I've also come to realise that the above messages are 3 messages over the period of 11 minutes. I didn't realise that any of them had arrived until the block was introduced and my editing rights were removed. Where does the notification of new messages arriving appear in the wikipedia GUI?

{{unblock|I've reviewed the the external links guideline and it states that linking to sites that contain the full copy of works that cannot be reproduced due to copyright reasons is permissable. All of the links that I added pointing at granta.com are either directly to the full content of an article authored by the contributor on the wikipedia page that contains the link or to a page listing articles where there is more than one article on granta.com. I admit that I did write the CMS that is powering the granta.com engine so even though I am not currently working for them, it is debatable that I have a conflict of interest so if I am unblocked then I will suggest links to granta rather than add links to granta in the future.}}

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Apologies for the hasty block. Thank you for reviewing our guidelines; I have no qualms with unblocking you. Please ask me if you have any further questions.
