Feedback for the course assignment “Add to an article” (due 2/21/18)

[edit]

I have reviewed the citation you added to History of Rutgers University, currently showing up as citation number 1. Here are a couple of ways this citation could be improved. First, on the technical side, you'll see it says "Missing or empty |title=" in red. This means one of the required fields was not filled out when adding the citation; in this case the field "Title" is missing. Any field that has an asterisk next to it in the citation form is a required field. For example, for your citation the "Title" field would be "Colonel Henry Rutgers Society" and the "Website" field would be the name of the overall website, i.e. "Rutgers University Foundation." Second, for this Wikipedia article, another more reliable secondary source would be more appropriate to cite instead of the Rutgers University Foundation fundraising page which only briefly mentions the history of Henry Rutgers's philanthropy. Remember, we want to provide citations to the most reputable, well-researched historical scholarship. Books and essays by historians are the sources we want to cite. A better choice of citation for this Wikipedia article would be the essay by David Fowler, which can be found at this link: Benevolent Patriot: Henry Rutgers, 1745-1830.
