A tag has been placed on Turner Carroll Gallery, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. September 2009[edit]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. You have violated one or more of our rules, including rules against adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, using Wikipedia for promotion, and editing inappropriately with a conflict of interest. This kind of activity is considered spamming and is forbidden by Wikipedia's policies. Although Wikipedia has a great many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See Wikipedia:FAQ/Organization for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest for the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals here, you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} below this message box.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
See also Wikipedia:Appealing a block for more information. Kurt Shaped Box (talk) 05:23, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Requested username:

Request reason:

I want very much to be a part of the Wikipedia community. I want to be unblocked as there are articles I would like to write or contribute to regarding contemporary art. These include an entry for Deborah Oropallo, and for Turner Carroll Gallery. I understand that I did not go about writing the Turner Carroll Gallery article correctly. I am no spammer, and without an account I cannot even begin a dialogue on the best ways to write and contribute to articles. Hopefully my new username will reflect that neutrality.

Decline reason:

Your new username choice looks good to me. However, part of the concern here is that you are contributing with a conflict of interest. People normally name themselves after a business or organization only when they are representing them. You don't confirm or deny this, so let me ask you directly: are you affiliated with the Turner Carroll Gallery? If so, are you willing to obey the restrictions described at WP:BESTCOI with regard to editing about the gallery or any other topic whose public image is significant for the gallery? Mangojuicetalk 17:19, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mangojuice. Thank you for your reply. I am the owner of the gallery, and certainly can abide by the restrictions at WPCOI. I attempted to follow the spirit of neutrality in the first iteration of this particular article, but obviously I failed. My goal is to (have someone else) create an entry that describes the gallery in the context of art history. We have other ways of generating web traffic and business, and in no way tried to blatantly self-promote. We've had a Ph.D. thesis and a Master thesis written on our artists; we have started the careers of notable artists; we show very important artists who have entries in Wikipedia; we are in touch with museum and university staff to provide research and curatorial input for books and exhibitions; and we take on interns who want to learn the art trade. My specific problem as it relates to Wikipedia is that we are also a business. I'm sure you understand that galleries are an important part of the arts and culture landscape: artists (who have entries herein) show in galleries. Important collections of art are sourced from galleries. As someone in the art world for 20 years, visual arts are my area of expertise, and the area in which I would like to fill in gaps in the arts record. Any suggestions you have for achieving this goal would be greatly appreciated. Best Tcgallery (talk) 18:02, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I'm unblocking you to allow you to make your name change request. I understand the importance of galleries and recognize your expertise. I'll leave it up to you to judge where you have a conflict of interest, with the understanding that you certainly do with regard to an article on or prominently mentioning the gallery itself. As for requesting an article be created independently, the best way to go about that is via Wikipedia:Requested articles, though it may take some time. Please file your name change request at Wikipedia:Changing username as soon as possible. You are now unblocked. Mangojuicetalk 05:05, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for the help and your understanding. Best Tcgallery (talk) 16:57, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
