Edit summary
[edit]Please avoid using judgemental edit summaries as you did in your recent edit to James II of England. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Civility, which explains how we request a reasonable degree of civility towards others. Thanks, JRawle (Talk) 16:51, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
IS this the place to reply to this message?
It was pretty much a miracle that I managed to edit the article in the first place. I presume this refers to reason rather than the edit itself. I said what I did only because the mnachine requested a reason. Accession is right. Ascension means sthg else and is misapplied by some appareently because of the similar sound. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Awxy (talk • contribs) 15:36, 26 August 2008
- Hi, yes it was the reason you gave for editing (known on Wikipedia as the "edit summary") that was the issue. Your edit was quite correct. However, it's best just to describe the change you made for the edit summary, e.g. "corrected spelling" or simply "accession". You shouldn't make remarks about the previous editor's contribution, such as to say it's illiterate, as that might offend the previous editor, or other editors such as me who happen to see it. The other editor was upset by your remark, as he tells me here. Ironically, you spelt illiterate incorrectly too!
- However, please don't let this deter you from editing. I realise you are new to Wikipedia, and even more experienced editors make mistakes from time to time. I hope you'll continue to make contributions, even if it's only correcting the odd spelling from occasionally. I've added our standard "welcome" message below to give you some pointers to getting started.
- By the way, yes you can reply here. I was "watching" your page, so saw you had replied. However, many people prefer to reply on the other person's talk page, as they then receive a notification that they have a new message. There are pros and cons to both methods.
- Best wishes, JRawle (Talk) 15:51, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
