User talk:BC1278/sandbox/Hottinger
I have a COI as a paid consultant to Hottinger Group.
1. Merge the entire article with Hottinguer family or delete off-topic sections (see 2-4 below)
Why?
According to the lead, this article is about the Swiss division of a banking group that does not itself have a Wikipedia article. The Swiss division went out of business in 2015. Only the first, third and fourth paragraphs are actually about the subject of the article, Hottinger & Cie. None of the sources in the article are actually about Hottinger & Cie - the article would be unsourced if it was confined to the subject of the article.
The rest of the article is about the larger banking business of the Hottinger family. There is an entire article about this subject at Hottinguer family. There are multiple banks and financial institutions with the Hottinger name from the 18th through 21s centuries and these are discussed at length in the Hottinguer family article, including more info aboutHottinger & Cie than is in this article. Everything after the "losses mortally wounded the Swiss bank's capital adequacy which led to the Swiss division closing its doors in 2015" is a copy paste from the Hottinguer family article.
2. If the article is not merged, delete the second paragraph, starting: "In 1981, Baron Henri Hottinger (1934–2015) sought to further expand and diversify the international footprint of the Hottinger Group..." and ending "and the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK."
Why?
This is not about the subject of the article, Hottinger & Cie. This paragraph is about other banking businesses controlled by the "Hottinger family" and is already covered in the article Hottinguer family.
3. If the article is not merged, delete everything after: "The losses mortally wounded the Swiss bank's capital adequacy which led to the Swiss division closing its doors in 2015."
Why?
Nothing in the remainder of the article concerns Hottinger & Cie, which went out of business in 2015, as the article states. All of this is a copy paste from the final section of Hottinguer family about the other family banking firms.
4. If the article is not merged, atop the article, add: "For other articles about the Hottinger family and companies, see Hottinger
1. Add new introduction for the article:
The Hottinguer family (also spelled "Hottinger") is an aristocratic Swiss and French family tracing its origins to the 14th century and known for banking and finance since the 18th century. The family's primary 21st century finance enterprise is the Hottinger Group.
The family traces its origins to the town of Zöllikon, near Zurich, where the name first appeared in town records in 1362. Hans, Heinrich and Rudolf Hottinger were burghers of the city in 1401. Following five generations of doctors and pastors, Johannes Hottinger, born in 1712, moved the family into the business world. Jean-Conrad, born in 1764, established the family as a banking dynasty. In September 1786, he joined with a Parisian family to create the bank “Rougemont, Hottinger & Cie.” During the time of Napoleon, Jean-Conrad was named "Baron of the Empire," in September 1810. His eldest son, Jean-Henri, took over the family's bank in January 1833 and greatly expanded operations internationally, including in America, Russia and Mexico. Following Jean-Henri, his son Rodolphe Hottinguer took over the bank. During the following four generations, into the 21st century, the family continued running financial institutions.
2. Move the entire opening/introductory paragraph - from "Hottinger first appears in the annals of the town of Zöllikon, near Zurich, in 1362" through to "...taking an active role in the region's political, cultural and religious life all the way into the 18th century" into the main content of the article and -
title this new section as "Origins"
Why?
This is not a overview or an introduction to the article. It's merely the first chapter, about the origin of the family in a specific city in Switzerland and its role in that city. It should be a separate content section, not the article's opening paragraph.
3. Above "References", add a new section:

4. In "Mergers and the new Hottinger Group (2015 – present)":
In first paragraph, last sentence, delete: "...which was sold to Ansbacher Private Bank in February 2019."
Add new final sentence: "Lyford Bank Bahamas was sold to Ansbacher Private Bank in February 2019.[1]"
Why?
This clarifies that the inheritance and the sale are two separate events happening many years apart.
5. In "Mergers and the new Hottinger Group (2015 – present)":
Change: The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) approved the merger of Hottinger and Archimedes in July 2016 with Hottinger Group maintaining offices in London, New York, Dublin and Geneva.
to: The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) approved the merger of Groupe Financière Hottinger & Co and Archimedes in July 2016 to become the Hottinger Group maintaining offices in London, New York, Dublin and Geneva.[2]
Why?
Clarifies the name of two entities that merged and the name of the new entity.
6. Correct Reference format at end of same final section to:
Frédéric Hottinger remains a shareholder and became a board member of Iteram Investments [3]
7. Add a redirect for Hottinger Group, the family's modern company, to Hottinguer family, where it is discussed in the final section.
