Ross Piper

[edit]

Hello, Bambos76, and welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed you'd edited the Ross Piper article and am curious as to why you removed some of the material from the article. I spent some time researching and gathering information before writing the article, and would be interested to know the rationale behind your edits. Also, do you have a reference to back up your assertion about an upcoming book? Thanks for getting involved with Wikipedia. Best wishes, Hebrides (talk) 09:18, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Thanks for doing the page. As it's about me I thought I'd make a few changes. I like to keep the zoology stuff separate from the business stuff. No reference for the new book, but I'll include something in due course. Many thanks again.
Thanks for getting back so quickly. That makes sense to me – no worries, and glad you approve of the rest of the article. However, I'm wondering if you're aware of the fact that there are some stringent policies about conflicts of interest on Wikipedia, to ensure that articles reflect a neutral point of view. You might like to read through Wikipedia:Conflict of interest, which gives you a run-down of this whole area. The aim is to try to maintain the encyclopaedic nature of Wikipedia, and ensure it doesn't get used for advertising or biased opinions.
The reason I asked about a reference was because of the policy outlined in Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons – there are no particular problems with your statement about the book in this article, but in general all statements in articles about living people need to be verifiable via citations to reliable published sources. This protects people like you from unfounded statements and rumours that could otherwise appear in your article (since everyone can edit Wikipedia).
By the way, did you realise that over 70 Wikipedia articles link to the Ross Piper page? See the list here. Best wishes, Hebrides (talk) 11:27, 18 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
