A few suggestions:

wear "sensible clothing," and to eat a "wholesome diet." [put punctuation inside of quotation marks]

being a tomboy as well the freedom it provides for gender exploration [added "it provides"]

through the First and Second World Wars in society, literature, and then film [a question here: in which country's/areas' society, literature, and culture? American? British? Western?]

societal fears about the sexualities of tomboys, and this anxiety caused some to question [added "anxiety" to clarify "this"]
