Please do not add advertising or inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you.--Hu12 (talk) 17:57, 29 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello HU12,

The links (and text) that I added are scientific papers published in highly-reputed refereed academic Computer Science journals. The only reason I used a http://www.akamai.com url is that they have conveniently posted the pdf of these papers on their website. It is *not* some sort of a advertising material. They are genuine scientific publications and it provides critical new information that adds great value to these articles. You could easily click on each pdf and ensure that these are in fact scientific publications and not marketing material. Could you please undo your edits?

thanks

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 03:40, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding inappropriate external links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising or promotion. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, additions of links to Wikipedia will not alter search engine rankings. If you continue spamming, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 03:44, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Barek,

I am trying to improve the articles with authorative sources on the topic. Why is this spam? Please explain. If I remove the url for the pdf, will it then be ok? The references that I am adding are authoritative refereed references on the subject. They greatly enhance the usefulness of the articles. I am myself an expert in this area and I am trying to make these wikipedia articles more useful. Please explain what I should do.

Wikipedia is not a repository of external links. If there's content in the papers to expand Wikipedia content, great - expand or correct the existing content within the articles. But, simply advertising the existance of the papers is not. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 03:56, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Understood that Wikipedia is not a set of links. But for these technical topics to be meaningful in wikipedia there needs to be authoritative sources cited for further reading. If I could describe the technology in a few lines, and then leave the references for further reading would that be acceptable?

Better yet, review the existing content, and expand and/or correct it where needed. Also, be targeted with your additions; links between the articles exist so that the same information doesn't need to be repeated on multiple articles. --- Barek (talkcontribs) - 04:13, 1 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks Barek.
