Hello Bobshaw becn. The nature of your edits gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially egregious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat SEO.
Paid advocates are very strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists, and if it does not, from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.
Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:Bobshaw becn. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=Bobshaw becn|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. Responding to your notice, I am a Beacon employee. I was not aware of the requirement to be more explicit regarding my employment, but the rule makes sense. Thank you for pointing that out to me. I am obviously not of the Journalist culture and have a poor understanding of the usual and customary obligations of that culture. I updated my user page to be more explicit about my employment and my role at Beacon as an IT type.
I did, initially, make the request to have the Beacon Roofing Supply page moved to Beacon Building Products on the Talk page. I posted a link to the SEC filing (Form 8-K), and some text excerpt, supporting that request. Several hours later I noticed that the Talk page had previously been updated in December 2017, and it occurred to me that it might take awhile for someone to notice that request. Looking around further, I noticed under the More menu that I had access to Move the page, and was encouraged to do that in the Move instructions (I can not find that reference now, but words to the effect 'be bold').
It is not my intention to by-pass the community controls and standards, I intended only to update factual, publicly available information directly relevant to the article. I also added the latest logo to the Infobox, using 'The Home Depot' as a comparable example, and disclosed, to the best of my understanding, the legal status of that logo/artwork and its source , which also implied that I was an employee of Beacon.
I will not make additional changes to the article, but the changes I did make are the factual truth that correctly reflect the current public and legal status of Beacon Building Products, and my use of my actual full name, and the BECN suffix supports that I have been open about my identity, and to a lesser degree, my affiliation with Beacon.
